چکیده

Normalized F0 values measured from a specific prosodic domain (the Accentual Phrase, AP) are used in order to compare readings from four female speakers of two varieties of French: two Canadians (Quebec City area) and two French (Vendée area). Comparisons are based on APs with similar internal organization (contour, number of syllables, contourto-text timing) and identical position within an utterance. Normalized F0 values show greater inter-dialectal variation than intra-dialectal one for specific parts of the contours, namely the L tones of the LLH continuation contour and the first L and H tones of the LHL final contour. Perceptual experiments will be conducted later based on these findings.

Comparing two different principles of parametric F0 modeling

A number of data-based approaches to intonation modeling represent F0 movements using continuous parameters. This is contradictory to most intonation theories, which suggest that intonation can be modeled with a set of distinct phonological entities that are phonetically realized as F0 movements. This principle has rarely been incorporated into data-based intonation modeling. In this study we c...

Une comparaison de la déclinaison de F0 entre le français et l'allemand journalistiques (F0-declination : a comparison between French and German journalistic speech) [in French]

F0-declination : a comparison between French and German journalistic speech The aim of the present study is to investigate F0-declination over the course of utterances in French and German journalistic speech by using large transcribed and automatically segmented corpora (a total of about 80,000 utterances of more than 1,000 speakers). Two different methods were applied : (i) regression-analysi...

Parameterization of prosodic headedness

Prosodic headedness generally refers to the location of relevant prosodic events at the left or right end of prosodic constituents. In a bottom-up procedure based on a computational F0 stylization we tested several measures to quantify headedness in parametrical and categorical terms for intonation in the accentual phrase (AP) domain. These measures refer to F0 level and range trends as well as...

How are word-final schwas different in the north and south of france?

The aim of this paper is twofold: (i) give a large-scale description in realized word-final schwas of French lexical words for different regions (North vs. South) and different speaking styles (read vs. spontaneous speech); (ii) highlight differences in prosodic features and test these differences via automatic classification techniques. The proposed study relies on a subset of 12.5 hours of th...
